Guugaarr
Open Edition Reproduction
Guugaar – Yuwaalaraay for Goanna – he will chase you!
We were staying at Mogila Sheep Station (about 6 miles from Goodooga), as there were too many of us home to stay at granny’s house… so we slept at the huts. One day, a guugaarr chased one of the men up the tree – he went up one fork, and the man went the other. Then he came back, and went up the same branch, before turning and running down the tree and scattered us all – screaming women and children everywhere.
